The FCA has updated its travel insurance signposting rules to improve access to specialist cover for consumers with more serious pre-existing medical conditions (PEMCs). The medical condition premium threshold will therefore increase to £200 from the 1st January 2026, ensuring that customers who need specialist cover are directed to the appropriate providers.
Firms should ensure that their internal systems, websites, and any social media platforms reflect the updated threshold. It is mandatory for any firm advertising that where they advise and/or arrange travel insurance to provide a clear link to either the Travel Insurance Directories or an equivalent approved directory. Keeping this link visible and details accurate demonstrates the firm’s commitment to compliance and helps consumers easily access the specialist cover they need.
To support compliance, we have updated our General Insurance Manuals to include step-by-step guidance on signposting customers with PEMCs, helping firms ensure their policies and procedures remain aligned with the FCA’s latest requirements. The manuals are available to download directly from our website for any firms who want the latest version.
