It’s easy to complete the annual Certification Assessments and think the job’s done — but firms must also update the Directory Attestation via the FCA’s Connect system. This step is often overlooked, yet it’s a vital part of maintaining the public-facing FCA Register.
The Directory Attestation confirms that your Advisers and/or other Directory Persons remain fit and proper, with current information reflecting their roles, qualifications and status. If this isn’t updated annually, the FCA (and customers) could be relying on outdated or incorrect details — which may cause issues during audits or supervision.
The Directory Persons Attestation is a mandatory requirement and must be completed every 12 months via the Connect system. A useful tip to be aware of is that the FCA places a reminder under the ‘Your Next Tasks’ section on your MyFCA portal, so it’s worth keeping an eye on this to ensure it’s actioned on time.
